Candidacy Statement
My professional leadership journey has always been aligned with AONL’s mission -- to transform healthcare through expert and influential nursing leadership. I lead with purpose, grounded in the science of human caring, and have built holistic, resilient, and equity-centered nursing cultures across diverse systems. From influencing national policy and modernizing nurse practice acts to advancing global leadership through Magnet4Europe and GAPFON, I bring a proven record of advocacy, innovation, and impact.
Dale Beatty -- AONL Region 9, Board of Directors
Throughout my career, I have been guided by the belief that representation matters—in leadership, in policy, and in care. I’ve proudly supported and partnered with affiliate associations I deeply admire to advance that vision, including the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA), the National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN), the Philippine Nurses Association of America (PNAA), and the NAINA (National Association of Indian Nurses of America) —to name just a few.

These collaborations reflect a shared commitment to cultivating leadership that reflects the communities we serve and are consistent with the call to action laid out in the Future of Nursing 2020–2030 report:to build a more equitable, resilient, and diverse nursing workforce.
I remain steadfast in my commitment to AONL’s mission and vision. In 2023, I had the privilege of joining an esteemed panel of nurse leader advocates during the AONL Annual Conference in Anaheim, CA. That moment—gathering with leaders from across the country—was a powerful reminder of our shared purpose and the responsibility we carry in shaping the future of care. As part of that event, I engaged in a national conversation focused on inclusive leadership and health equity, underscoring the urgent need to move from intention to sustainable action.

Now in 2025, I continue to champion this work and seek to further it as your AONL Region 9 Board Representative. In this role, I will:

-
Amplify the united voice of nursing leadership
-
Advance inclusive strategies to strengthen our workforce
-
Drive policy innovation that empowers our profession
-
Foster partnerships that reflect the future of healthcare
It would be an honor to serve as your AONL Region 9 Board Representative.
Your vote matters—let’s shape the future of nursing, together.
AONL members can vote for a Board of Director candidate in each region, regardless of where you live.
Overview of My Career
My career includes twenty-five years as a Chief Nurse Executive (CNE) in premier community and academic healthcare systems and boards. Additionally, I have served as 2011 President of the Illinois Organization of Nurse Leaders (IONL), and 2023 President of the Association of California Nurse Leaders (ACNL). In these leadership roles, my focus has been on advancing the healthcare workforce, policy, and advocacy, as well as promoting nursing leadership and championing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) and health equity. Through the lens of a minority nurse leader, I would bring unique and valuable knowledge to the AONL Board, armed with significant professional and academic experiences.

Watson's Caring Science is foundational to my professional practice. I am a Caritas Coach®, which has guided me in the care of myself and others.
The American Academy of Nursing has recognized my work.

My mother was a professional nurse, and a certified nurse in occupational nursing. She was my first mentor and recently passed away. I am forever grateful to her for the life lessons and love. I have two sons that are a center of my life and I am proud of them.
